What is Reiki?

Reiki refers to an ancient hands-on healing art that can be applied to yourself or to others, to animals, plants, Mother Earth – anything that has a vibration.

This healing energy originates from the universe and does not draw from the energy of the giver.

Reiki is a Japanese word that translates to “universal life force energy”. “Rei” means “universal” and “Ki” or “Chi” refers to “life force”. This name was given by Mikao Usui who rediscovered the lost art in the late 1800’s. Usui studied the 2500-year-old Sanskrit text and learned of the healing art but not how to activate it. So he climbed Mount Koriyama and meditated for 21 days. Enlightened, he walked off the mountain with the answers and ability to channel the universe’s energy for healing.

Once attuned, the energy flows through the top of your head and down your neck to shoulders, arms and your palms, entering the energy field that surrounds your body.  The sensations that can be experienced are warmth, tingling, and deep relaxation. At times people who are receiving Reiki fall asleep. Health care professionals like nurses, caregivers, teachers and massage therapists can use this energy as it is a great complement to other treatments.

Reiki is a great pain reliever, and can be used after surgery, chemotherapy or other severe health situations. You can use this energy on everyday concerns like headaches, stomach problems, wounds, stresses, or babies with colic or teething pain. Children find the energy very relaxing; Reiki is wonderful for the over-active child. Reiki can be used on newborns, grandparents, and the family pet, and may affect not only the physical but the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects. This is a great class for the care giver in the family to help their loved ones with pain or discomfort.

Reiki Training

The complete Reiki training can be taken within 6 months or upwards of several years. Look for a Master who offers “Reiki Shares” where you can practice what you have learned. Classes and manuals are great but this is a Hands-on Healing Art which cannot come souly from theory.

At these Shares you should get and receive a Reiki treatment in a group setting.  The average Reiki practitioner will take Levels One and Two separately and may decide this is all they require, while some will be drawn to continue with the Mastery training and bring this wonder to others.  Remember that “To Teach is to Learn Twice”.

Reiki I

Level One opens you to channel the energy through the attunement process. The attunement process will open you to channel the universe’s energy for the intent of your healing journey or that of another.  This process is what sets Reiki apart from other hands-on modalities. Being able to utilize the universe’s energy rather than your own has many benefits. Other energy practitioners find their ability to channel energy at least doubles on their first attunement.

Level One usually includes: History, Uses, Information on Chakras, and how the energy can effect symptoms or illnesses and which hand positions you use to affect a certain area. After your attunement you will practice Reiki that very first day – on yourself and then on another participant. Many more techniques can be included depending on the Master/Teacher.

Reiki One and Two are run a few times a year and are two day events over a couple of weekends with a total of 16 hours of class time. Some case studies are expected before receiving the Level Two certificate. Three sessions with three people and or animals so a total of 9 hours practice once you take the Level Two to be complete. No extra attendance is expected after the two classes. The case studies can be emailed to the Teachers then a certificate will be mailed out to you.

Fee: $175.00.

Reiki II

In Level Two, 3 of the 5 remaining symbols are introduced. (Many were lost during the Chinese takeover of Tibet.) These symbols resonate with the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of your energy system. A second attunement is given and you learn what each symbol’s purposes are and how to draw them.  Again you have hands-on practice using the symbols in a session. The biggest draw for Reiki Two students is the Distance Healing practice, which allows you to send the Reiki energy to anyone or any place in the universe.

Reiki Mastery

The Advanced and Mastery levels deal with more in-depth issues and practices. Depending on the training of the student, the time involved is about 15 hours of in-class study and practice. Please note, in the Traditional Usui method there is only three levels with Mastery being the level for those who chose to train others. You will receive another attunement and the last two symbols. One resonates with the soul aspect and the other is used mostly in the attunement process. Also expected in your Mastery training is to attend at least one class held by Jeannine as her teaching assistant. You can attend as many as you like to prepare yourself for teaching on your own.

Reiki Advanced/Mastery/Teacher degree is available and class dates booked with each student separately or in small groups.

Please note the Reiki Mastery is a single level with Enlightened Hands. This covers advanced techniques, aromatherapy in energy work covering the Chakra Sprays and 3 blends and 2 single notes being Rosewood and Frankincense, the Master Symbol, attunements and how to attune others, and how to teach a class. It requires 15 hours, or two days of classes. However, some attendance at her classes as an observer or Teaching Assistant may be required.

Fee: $650.00. Plus GST

Attunement Process

This process assists you in the ability to channel the universal energy without difficulty. The atunement works with the Reiki Master utilizing breath work, kundalini control, drawing of the symbols inside the students energy field. This process clears the energy field allowing the frequency energy to channel through the giver’s Crown Chakra and down their neck and shoulders to the hands. Imagine a radio frequency that is all static-like and after the attunement is done you can tune-in to the station. Most people feel a heat radiating from their hands while others feel surges of energy through their hands.

Reiki Training Remotely

Jeannine’s take on it. Well I have known a few people to actively use the Reiki after they have taken it online or remotely, however most of these people when I actually got to work with them were not using the universal energy and were for the most part using their own energy to give to people. The attunement process is crucial to the practitioner actually tapping into universal energy. I have worked with a few like this and had to give them a booster attunement so they stopped using their own energy for sessions. The whole point of being a Reiki Practitioner is to channel the energy. I at this time do not endorse or teach Reiki that way and for those of you who have taken courses online and now want to further your education with a live teacher there may be some extra training you will need to comply with to be certified with Enlightened Hands.

The other issue is that its hard to confirm is the ethical behavior of the teachers online some may be true and lovely energies and some are just out to make easy money. Reiki isn’t math 101 its a hands on practice that takes hands on experience from teachers you trust. Their rates are cheaper but you* always* get what you pay for. This is your journey so I do hope you make the best decision for you.
